So because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of My mouth.
Revelation 3:16
We know what God thinks of the lukewarm church. So what is a lukewarm Christian? How do you know if this is you? To put it briefly, it is a person who desires his own personal agenda above God's. It is a person that compromises God's standard for his own.
Why is this important? We are a new creation and are to live for God not for ourselves. Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come. 2 Corinthians 5:17 If we are a new creation and we aren't living for God we must ask, are we truly saved? Will we be surprised when we sit before God in judgment and He says 'Depart from Me, accursed ones, into the eternal fire which has been prepared for the devil and his angels; Matthew25:41
We're all familiar with John 3:16 but how many of you are familiar with Luke 3:16? John answered and said to them all, "As for me, I baptize you with water; but One is coming who is mightier than I, and I am not fit to untie the thong of His sandals; He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. Luke 3:16 How about Christ's words I have come to cast fire upon the earth; and how I wish it were already kindled! Luke 12:49? No matter which way we cut it fire is involved, be it the fire of the Holy Spirit (Luke 3:16) or hell fire (Luke 12:49). I believe the world by in large is going to the fires of hell because the fires of the Holy Spirit burn shallow in Christians today. I believe Christianity today is exactly was God was talking about in Revelation 3:16.
We are the church of Laodicea. We've become wealthy, fat and lazy. 'Because you say, "I am rich, and have become wealthy, and have need of nothing," and you do not know that you are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked, I advise you to buy from Me gold refined by fire so that you may become rich, and white garments so that you may clothe yourself, and that the shame of your nakedness will not be revealed; and eye salve to anoint your eyes so that you may see. Revelation 3:17-18 Today's church has no need of anything and unfortunately that also means we have no need of God. We don't know that we are naked before God, that we are blind spiritually and ultimately we are a wretched miserable mess. Look at the state of the world and you will see the truth of this statement. If we as Christians were burning with the fire of the Holy Spirit, out serving the command of our Lord and Savior to bring the Gospel message to people around the world, this world would indeed be different.
God wants a revival in our souls. He wants us to be the radical Christians that we read about in the book of Acts. We cannot serve two masters. No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other You cannot serve God and wealth. Matthew 6:24 You either serve God or you serve man but you can't serve both. Who do you serve? Do you serve God with your mind? Many Christians today do. What's missing is the heart and soul. AND YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND, AND WITH ALL YOUR STRENGTH.' Mark 12:30
Are you sinning just as frequently now as when you were unsaved? If the world could read your mind would it be any different than the unsaved sinner next to you? If we look at the trend in the Christian Church we will find a divorce rate the same as the secular world. We will see crime rates similar to the secular world. We will see very little difference from the world today. This is what God will spit out, this is what I believe God is done with. He is DONE with you, He is DONE with me. He wants to create a renewed spirit within us. Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. Psalm 51:10
